In his speech at the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Helsinki on 4 December 2008 Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier had called for a new start on arms control and announced that he would be hosting a meeting of high-level experts in Berlin in this connection.
That conference will take place in Berlin on Wednesday (10 June) under the title “The Future of Conventional Arms Control in Europe”. The event is not open to the press.
On Tuesday evening (9 June) Minister Steinmeier will meet conference participants to discuss conventional arms control and the future of the CFE Treaty. He will also present a new book entitled “Die Zukunft konventioneller Rüstungskontrolle in Europa” (The Future of Conventional Arms Control in Europe) by Wolfgang Zellner, Hans-Joachim Schmidt and Götz Neuneck.
