Brazil: Federal Foreign Office provides assistance for flood victims

14.05.2009 - Press release

Following heavy rainfall and severe flooding in many parts of Brazil, 37 people have lost their lives and some 300,000 have been made homeless throughout the country. The already poor north-east of the country has been hit particularly hard.

The Federal Foreign Office is making available 200,000 euro in emergency aid for those communities which have suffered most.

These funds will be used to procure and distribute urgently needed supplies for people in need in cooperation with relief organizations and the Brazilian authorities.

In 2008, the Federal Foreign Office provided supplies to the tune of 300,000 euro after flooding in southern Brazil.
