Federal Minister Steinmeier appeals to the Government and Opposition in Moldova to engage in non-violent dialogue
Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement today (10 April) on recent events in the capital Chisinau:
“I have been following developments in Chisinau over the last few days with concern. I call upon all sides to now come together and engage in non-violent dialogue.
Upholding the freedom of assembly and of the press are fundamental democratic principles. I therefore call upon the Government in Chisinau to respect universal civil rights even in the current tense situation.”
Federal Minister Steinmeier telephoned the Romanian Foreign Minister the day before yesterday (8 April) to discuss the situation in Moldova.
