Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (16 February) appointed Ambassador Bernd Mützelburg as his Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

With the appointment of the new Special Representative, Germany is further intensifying its diplomatic engagement with Afghanistan and Pakistan. In his new capacity Ambassador Mützelburg will also be a high-level contact point for the international community.

Minister Steinmeier will officially present the new Special Representative today at the Federal Foreign Office.
