Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin today (31 January) in connection with the power-sharing agreement reached in Zimbabwe:

“I hope that the present agreement will finally enable Zimbabwe to emerge from the profound crisis in which it currently finds itself – a crisis that is of a political, economic and humanitarian nature. Only if the opposition party, which won the parliamentary elections, is truly allowed to participate responsibly in the new government can the catastrophic conditions in the country be overcome.”
