Yesterday (7 January), Federal Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier sent a telegram congratulating his new colleague, Dipu Moni, on her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The text reads as follows:

“Please accept my sincere congratulations on your appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. I wish you all the best, stamina and every success in carrying out your new and challenging responsibilities.

You are taking up office at a crucial time for Bangladesh. The peaceful and free elections in your country are an important step forward. People in Germany will continue to follow Bangladesh's development with great interest.

Germany will carry on doing everything it can to support Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to further develop and intensify the good cooperation based on trust between our countries.”
