Commenting on the course and outcome of the presidential election in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement today (14 June) in Berlin:
"The way the election was carried out in Iran raises many questions. Reports of irregularities are worrying. I expect leaders in Tehran to investigate these accusations thoroughly and provide comprehensive clarification. The violent approach security forces have adopted towards demonstrators is unacceptable, as is subduing peaceful protests. We will continue to monitor the situation in Iran very closely."
