A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (12 January) on reports of the testing of a ballistic missile by North Korea on 11 January:
The German Government vehemently condemns the latest test of a ballistic missile by North Korea. With this second missile test within just a few days, North Korea is again flagrantly breaching its obligations under the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. North Korea is thus irresponsibly jeopardising international and regional security and stability.
The German Government urges North Korea to refrain from further provocation, to implement the Security Council decisions in full, and to accept the offers of dialogue put forward by the United States and South Korea and enter into serious negotiations on the dismantling of its nuclear and missile programmes. North Korea remains bound to the complete, verifiable and irreversible ending of its programmes to develop weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.
