Welcome
Federal Foreign Office on the ASEAN “Five Point Consensus” on Myanmar
A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (25 April) on the Five-Point Consensus on Myanmar agreed at the ASEAN Summit on 24 April:
At yesterday’s summit, ASEAN succeeded in opening the door towards a peaceful, dialogue-based and inclusive process intended to lead Myanmar out of the crisis. The Federal Government welcomes the Five-Point Consensus, which gives the people of Myanmar hope of an end to the violence. Now it is important to start a constructive dialogue on this basis which includes all relevant stakeholders and paves the way for a return to democratically legitimised institutions.
The Federal Government reiterates its call for the release of all political prisoners and stands ready to support ASEAN and UN Special Envoy Schraner Burgener in their efforts.
