Federal Foreign Office statement on the violence employed by the Myanmar security forces
A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (21 February) on the violence employed by the security forces in Myanmar:
The German Government condemns the violent action taken by the military of Myanmar; it reiterates its call to end the use of violence against demonstrators and engage in a dialogue that will allow for returning to the democratisation process. This includes the immediate release of all those who have been detained, especially of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint, as well as enabling the democratically legitimised, constitutional institutions to again take up their work.
The German Government mourns the death of three demonstrators so far in Myanmar, who bravely denounced the military coup in their country. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones, the numerous people who have been injured and all those who are taking part in peaceful demonstrations against the military regime.
