A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (9 March) on the situation in the Sudan:
We condemn this morning’s attack on the convoy of Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in the country’s capital Khartoum. We are very relieved that this heinous attack on the Prime Minister, which at the same time targeted the fledgling democracy in the Sudan, did not succeed. We want to reaffirm our solidarity with the Sudanese Prime Minister, his Government and the Sudanese people.
Germany stands alongside the Sudan as it follows the path towards peace and democracy and will actively support the country during this difficult but decisive transition phase.
