The 14th plenary meeting of the German-Russian High Level Working Group on Security took place in Moscow today (14 November 2019). It was chaired by Vladimir G. Titov, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Andreas Michaelis, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office.
The participants engaged in a substantial exchange of views on current issues in the fields of security policy, arms control and counter terrorism, as well as on regional conflicts. A number of pressing issues on the international agenda were also discussed, including the situation in Ukraine, Syria and Libya. The sub-working groups reported on their positions on the various topics and, in this context, drew attention to two documents, the Joint Declaration of the Sub-Working Group on Counter Terrorism of 16 May 2019 and the Joint German-Russian Policy Paper on Drug-related Problems issued by the same Sub-Working Group in November 2019. The next meeting of the High Level Working Group will take place in Berlin in 2020.
