Relations between Germany and Yemen have traditionally been friendly. Germany is held in high esteem as a result of decades of development cooperation and humanitarian assistance in addition to cultural cooperation in the archaeology sphere. Providing funds totalling 50 million euro in the field of development cooperation and more than 25 million euro of humanitarian assistance, Germany was one of the largest bilateral donors in 2025. Currently there is only a very limited number of humanitarian projects underway in the area controlled by Houthi militia
– both to protect personnel but also to prevent Houthi militia gaining in strength.

Germany supports the efforts led by the United Nations and the Office of the Special Envoy for Yemen to bring about a lasting resolution to the conflict between the internationally recognised government (IRG) and the Houthis.
