Germany and Guinea: Bilateral Relations
In holding parliamentary and municipal elections on 31 May 2026, Guinea concluded the transitional phase outside the constitutional order that had begun after the military coup d’état on 21 September 2021.
Bilateral cooperation between Germany and Guinea is constructive, but limited. The focus of trade relations is on the import of raw materials, particularly bauxite.
As part of its strategic realignment, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development decided in 2020 to end bilateral development cooperation with Guinea. Ongoing projects in the fields of basic education and healthcare are expected to be concluded by 2028. Furthermore, Germany supports regional projects aimed at improving governance in the field of raw materials and building border-management capacities.
