Welcome
Germany and Equatorial Guinea: Bilateral relations
Diplomatic contacts are maintained by the German Embassy in Yaoundé (Cameroon).
In 2019, seven members of the Bundestag Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Central African States, headed by Dr Christoph Hoffmann (Free Democratic Party), visited Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon for several days. In Equatorial Guinea, the Senate was one of the places visited by the delegation.
Lufthansa offers regular flights from Malabo to Frankfurt.
Bilateral trade relations are developing at a modest level. Germany’s main exports to Equatorial Guinea are machinery, boats, beverages, production facilities and motor vehicles. Its main imports from Equatorial Guinea are oil and chemical products. Business opportunities for German companies entail significant risks due to the difficult business environment. The ongoing recession since 2014 has made the business climate even less favourable.
Germany provided development cooperation until the mid-1990s.
Cultural relations between Equatorial Guinea and Germany are based on initiatives by individuals. A few contacts exist between stakeholders in Germany and Equatorial Guinea, but regular exchange does not take place. In recent years, several cultural projects have been organised in cooperation with European partners, as well as measures to promote sport.
