Germany and Benin: Bilateral relations

24.03.2025 - Article

The Federal Republic of Germany has maintained diplomatic relations with Benin continuously since 1962.

Germany is held in high regard in Benin, not least for its support in the context of development cooperation – the current portfolio totals around 438.66 million euro. This cooperation focuses on the reform of public finances and the digitalisation of state services, sustainable economic development, training and employment, water and sanitation as well as the protection of biosphere reserves, and the expansion of renewable energies.

Trade with Germany continues at a low level. In 2024, the volume of trade was 81.5 million euro. Individual German companies such as Heidelberg Materials and DHL operate in Benin.
