The 20th Conference of the Heads of German Missions is starting at the Federal Foreign Office today. The focus of the Conference is on rethinking German foreign policy following Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

From Asunción to Zagreb, from Vilnius and Washington, the almost 230 Heads of German Missions are meeting once again in Berlin from 5 to 8 September. Foreign Minister Baerbock will open the Conference on Monday morning. Her speech will be livestreamed on the Twitter channel @auswaertigesamt from 9.30 a.m.

Alongside strategic aspects of foreign and security policy such as the development of a National Security Strategy, the numerous panels, workshops and discussions with a regional focus will also address cross-cutting issues such as climate diplomacy and feminist foreign policy. Moreover, the agenda includes expanding the Foreign Service’s analytical and communication capabilities and the scope for strengthening it as an attractive employer in a diverse, more gender-equal society.

The Conference’s Business Forum, which will take place on Tuesday, 6 September, will focus on foreign trade issues. Climate diplomacy, sanctions regimes, sustainability and the digital transformation, as well as vocational training will be discussed. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Dr Sabine Mauderer, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, will address participants at around 1.00 p.m.
