Minister of State Niels Annen visited the Gulf region from 29 April to 2 May. This first longer trip abroad in his new role as Minister of State took him to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The situation in the Middle East is currently difficult in many areas, with hostilities in Iraq, attempts to preserve the nuclear agreement with Iran and the dramatic conflict in Yemen. Oman is playing a mediating role in the Persian Gulf.
The bilateral relationship was the main topic of the talks between the German and Omani Foreign Ministers on 18 August. The Ministers also discussed the conflicts in Yemen and Syria.
