Westerwelle meets Vashadze

Now Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze has returned the visit. In Berlin, the two Foreign Ministers discussed, among other things, the Association Agreement currently being negotiated between Georgia and the EU. more

Disaster reduction in Bhutan – children to the fore

Natural disaster could hit the people of Bhutan at any time – earthquakes, floods and landslides are all possible occurrences. The Federal Foreign Office is thus funding a disaster reduction project which focuses on children, or more precisely, on scouts and girl guides. more

Interministerial agreement enters into force

The Federal Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development have agreed to dovetail their activities better and thus make foreign and development policy more coherent. more

Afghanistan: Laying of foundation stone for a new primary school for girls

In mid-May the foundation stone was laid for the new building of the state Zohra primary school for girls in Qazak Shakh in Qala‑e‑Zal district. This is an infrastructure project in northern Afghanistan co‑financed by the Federal Foreign Office. more

Observer mission for Syria

Germany is participating in the UN observer mission in Syria. On 16 May, the Cabinet decided to second a total of up to ten unarmed military observers to the mission. more

Democratic change in Egypt

Germany is using the transformation partnership to lend active support to the process of democratization in the Arab world, particularly in Egypt – a country which is key to the Arab Spring. more

German Information Centres

German Information Centres (GIC) are designed to provide information about Germany in their host countries and rally support for German positions. These centres aim to arouse interest in Germany particularly among important young multipliers in the regional partner countries. more
