“Raising Climate Ambition” – Conference on climate policy and science to be held at the Federal Foreign Office in the run-up to Doha

31.10.2012 - Press release

The Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the German Climate Consortium (DKK) have organized a conference on raising climate ambition, which will bring together leading climate scientists with senior politicians, businesspeople and civil society representatives, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps in Berlin.

On the basis of the latest scientific findings, the 200 or so participants will discuss what an effective international climate policy can and cannot achieve, coming at the issue from their various perspectives – scientific, political, diplomatic and civil society-based.

The next session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place in Doha, Qatar, from 26 November to 7 December. Building on the decisions taken at COP 17 in Durban last year, this year’s session aims to lay the groundwork for negotiations on a new global climate agreement.

The conference language will be English.
