Statement by the Federal Foreign Office on the shooting attack in the West Bank

10.01.2018 - Press release

A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (10 January) on the murder of a rabbi in the West Bank yesterday evening:

We were deeply shocked to learn of yesterday’s deadly attack on a resident of an Israeli outpost in the West Bank. We condemn this heinous murder in the strongest possible terms.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victim’s family and loved ones.

Those who bear responsibility for or welcome this attack are fuelling the violence that makes it more difficult to reach a negotiated solution to the Middle East conflict. In our view, all sides should actively contribute to de-escalating the Situation.

Background information:

On Tuesday evening, a rabbi from an outpost near the city of Nablus was killed in a drive-by shooting while travelling by car down the main street that runs through the occupied West Bank. He died in hospital of his wounds.
The police have set up roadblocks around Nablus and are conducting a search for the perpetrator or perpetrators in the surrounding area.
