The Faculty of Information Sciences of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam undertook an external quality evaluation of the Federal Foreign Office’s Political Archive under the direction of Professor Karin Schwarz. Today, 13 March 2012, it handed over its evaluation report at the Federal Foreign Office.
The report makes clear that the Political Archive of the Federal Foreign Office meets high archival standards. One of its most important findings is that the archive is successful in providing satisfactory service to internal and external users equally. The chains of command in which the Political Archive stands have no effect on transparent and democratic access to the archive in the Federal Foreign Office.
A representative survey of users from Germany and abroad that was conducted by the UAS Potsdam was analysed for the report. This showed that the Political Archive has a positive image in terms of performance and usability.
The report, which also suggests continuing to develop the services offered by the Archive, gives the Federal Foreign Office a good basis for handling the Political Archive at the Federal Foreign Office in the future.
The independent evaluation by the UAS Potsdam was financially supported by the Federal Foreign Office within the framework of a project grant. A summary of the most important conclusions of the evaluation can be found at the website of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam:
