Minister of State Pieper travelling to Singapore and Thailand

Cornelia Pieper, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, to travel to Singapore and Thailand from 12 to 17 February. She will be accompanied by a delegation of academics and businesspeople.

Minister of State Pieper will kick off the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the establishment of German-Thai diplomatic relations together with Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Surapong Tovichakchaikul in Bangkok on 15 February. To mark this anniversary, numerous events will be held in Germany and Thailand in 2012. Moreover, Minister of State Pieper is to talk to the Minister of Education and the Minister of Culture in Bangkok.

In Singapore, Minister of State Pieper will meet the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and visit institutions supported through German cultural, scientific and economic cooperation, such as the German European School in Singapore (GESS).

Within the framework of the “Global School” pilot project, the GESS and the German School Chiang Mai in Thailand teach children using multi‑media technology; this is considered to be a lighthouse project of Germany’s Cultural Relations and Education Policy.
