Following the attacks in Mumbai, Federal Foreign Minister Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (27 November) offered his condolences to Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The letter reads as follows:
“I was deeply distressed by the news and pictures of the despicable terrorist attacks in Mumbai, which have claimed the lives of so many people and injured many more.
I would like to extend to you and to the Indian people, also on behalf of my fellow Germans, our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the countless injured.
The Federal Government condemns these cold-blooded attacks, which were clearly planned far in advance, in the strongest possible terms. The extreme brutality of the attacks fills us with horror and profound sadness. There is absolutely no justification for these criminal acts. However, they do remind us that we all have a responsibility to cooperate even more closely at international level to combat terrorism. Let us further develop and intensify our cooperation in this field.”
