Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (24 September) sent the following letter congratulating Mr Hirofumi Nakasone on his appointment as Foreign Minister of Japan:
“Please accept my warmest congratulations on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Japan. I wish you all the best, plenty of stamina and every possible success in carrying out your new responsibilities.
Our two countries are close partners. As G8 members Germany and Japan have a shared responsibility to help address global and international issues. I am therefore keen to continue the close consultations between our two countries and further expand our cooperation. I am very pleased you will be participating in the intensive dialogue G8 foreign ministers are conducting over a wide range of issues.
Working together, the major challenges we face both now and in the future can, I am sure, be successfully tackled. I look forward with great pleasure and anticipation to intensifying our cooperation still further for the benefit of our two nations.”
