Tomorrow (Thursday, 4 September) Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić is expected in Berlin for talks with Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This is their first meeting since the new Serbian Government reappointed Vuk Jeremić as Foreign Minister on 7 July.
In February Serbia had responded to Kosovo's proclamation of independence by breaking off all contact with countries that recognized Kosovo's independence and recalling its ambassadors there. The return of Serbia's ambassador to Berlin and Minister Jeremić's meeting tomorrow with Minister Steinmeier highlight the new direction the current Serbian Government is steering in foreign policy. Its prime objective is to forge close links with the European Union as quickly as possible. Steinmeier has repeatedly welcomed this change of course, pointing out that Serbia's future lies in Europe.
Promoting closer links between Serbia and the EU will also be the focus of tomorrow's talks between the two ministers.
