The German-Afghan taken hostage in Kabul on 25 July is free. Jens Plötner, the Federal Foreign Office Spokesman, issued the following statement in Berlin today (7 August):
"We are relieved to confirm that the German-Afghan national taken hostage in Afghanistan was freed this morning."

"We are relieved to confirm that the German-Afghan national taken hostage in Afghanistan was freed this morning.

He is currently in the care of the Afghan authorities. Embassy staff have already been in contact with him. He is as well as can be expected given the circumstances.

We would like to thank the Afghan Government and the Afghan security forces for their careful and successful work."
