Commenting on the response received yesterday from Iran on the negotiating package offered by the EU/E3+3, Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (6 August) issued the following statement:
"The German Government regards the response received yesterday from Iran to the comprehensive package offered by the EU/E3+3 as inadequate. In making this offer, we emphasized that we are seeking a diplomatic solution to the dispute over Iran's nuclear programme.
The EU/E3+3 stand by their two-track approach to resolving this issue. That means firstly a clear commitment to a negotiated solution. But should Iran be unwilling to travel this road with us, the matter must once again be referred to the UN Security Council. A united stand by the EU/E3+3 is essential if this two-track approach is to succeed."
