Human Rights Commissioner Nooke travels to Beijing

Günter Nooke, Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office, will arrive tomorrow in Beijing at the start of a four-day visit (5 – 9 August).

His objective in travelling to China at this time, immediately before the Olympics begin, is to see for himself the human rights and general situation in connection with the Games.

To this end the Commissioner also hopes to hold talks with civil society and religious representatives, as well as journalists. He has further been invited by the German Olympic Sports Confederation to visit the Olympic Village and the “Deutsches Haus” (the German centre for the duration of the Games) in Beijing.
