Two German and two Spanish soldiers from the EUFOR ALTHEA Mission were killed today in a helicopter crash in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This prompted Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to issue the following statement in Berlin:
“I was shocked to hear of the tragic helicopter crash in Bosnia and Herzegovina in which two German and two Spanish soldiers died. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and with their loved ones. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to them at this time.
The victims lost their lives in the performance of an important and responsible mission. EUFOR ALTHEA plays a vital role in safeguarding peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today's crash demonstrates once again the risks undertaken by many German soldiers serving abroad.”
