The German Government has offered its support to the People's Republic of China following the catastrophic earthquake in Sichuan province.
Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement today (13 May) in Yekaterinburg:
"The Federal Government is very concerned since the full extent of the devastation caused by the earthquake in China is still not known. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we wish those injured a speedy recovery.
The German Government made its offer to the People's Republic of China on Monday, the day of the quake. The immediate priority must be to help those wounded and made homeless as quickly as possible. As a first step, the German Government is making available 500,000 euro to the German Red Cross to support relief operations in China."
