This coming Monday (28 April) Günter Gloser, the Minister of State for Europe, and his Dutch counterpart, Minister for European Affairs Frans Timmermans, will meet for talks in Maastricht on German-Dutch cross-border cooperation. They will then visit Solland Solar, a firm based in both Aachen (Germany) and Heerlen (Netherlands).
Since 1958 communities and rural districts in the border region between Germany and the Netherlands have been working together in a local-government association called the “Euregio”. The aim of this cooperation is to intensify the region's economic, societal and cultural links.
With “INTERREG” the European Union has a programme specifically designed to promote European regional partnerships such as the German-Dutch Euregio. In this way the EU makes a major contribution towards the balanced and harmonious development of the Community area.
