Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (16 April) sent a letter congratulating his new colleague, Lazar Comanescu, on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
The letter reads as follows:
“Please accept my sincere congratulations on your appointment as Foreign Minister of Romania. I wish you all the best, a sure hand and every success in carrying out your important responsibilities.
Today Romania is a close partner of Germany in the European Union. I am pleased that Romania's foreign policy can draw on the wealth of experience in European affairs you have gained during the last few years with great personal dedication.
You served your country well as its ambassador to the European Union in Brussels, where you showed your commitment to Romania's integration into the EU. I am certain that we will cooperate closely and in a spirit of mutual trust in tackling the challenges ahead, for example the ratification and implementation of the Lisbon Treaty. Let us work together to further develop and intensify the amicable relations between our two countries during the coming years.
I look forward to establishing a good working relationship with you and hope that we will soon have the opportunity to exchange views in person.”
