Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today (4 April) sent a letter congratulating his new colleague, Alexander Stubb, on his appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The letter read as follows:
"Please accept my sincere congratulations on your appointment as Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland. I wish you all the best, a sure hand and every success in carrying out your important responsibilities.
I am pleased that Finland's foreign policy can draw on the wealth of experience in European affairs you have gained over the years with great personal commitment. I am certain that we will cooperate closely and in a spirit of mutual trust in tackling the challenges ahead, for example the ratification and implementation of the Lisbon Treaty. Let us work together to further develop and intensify the excellent relations between our two countries during the coming years.
I cordially invite you to Berlin for a first exchange of views and look forward to our planned telephone conversation next week and an initial discussion on topical European and international issues."
