TRADUKI – Literary encounters with south-eastern Europe

18.03.2008 - Press release

Federal Foreign Office participates in international fund to promote translations of south-eastern European literature

“TRADUKI” is a project which seeks to promote literary encounters between the countries of south-eastern Europe and Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The project, which is due to commence in the spring of 2008 and will last for five years, is sponsored by both public and private partners. The Federal Foreign Office is cooperating with the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia, KulturKontakt Austria, the Goethe-Institut and the S. Fischer Foundation.

Translations of fiction and poetry, children's and youth literature, as well as non-fiction works on historical, cultural and social issues are intended to raise awareness of our shared intellectual traditions and enhance confidence in a common European future.

Encounters between authors, translators, critics, publishers and academics will arouse mutual interest and make it easier to get to know partners.

TRADUKI will be managed by the S. Fischer Foundation in Berlin. A coordination office will be established in Sarajevo.
