Germany is continuing to expand its contacts in the growth region of Southeast Asia. On Monday (25 February) Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will embark on a five-day trip to Indonesia, Singapore and Viet Nam (26 February to 1 March). During the German EU Presidency last year, the Federal Government attached particular importance to deepening relations with the emerging economies in Southeast Asia and the ASEAN association.
The discussions will focus on the improvement of bilateral relations, regional topics and more intensive cooperation on international and global issues.
In Indonesia on the first stage of his journey, Steinmeier will meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Foreign Minister N. Hassan Wirajuda and ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan. The Minister will also attend the 50th anniversary celebrations of the German school in Jakarta.
