Gernot Erler re-elected President of the Southeast Europe Association

At the weekend, Gernot Erler, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, was re-elected President of the Southeast Europe Association for a further two years at its Annual General Meeting in Munich. Since 2000, he has been at the helm of this organization which is Germany's largest science and mediation organization with more than 800 members focusing on 14 countries in southern and southeastern Europe. Alongside three professors, the members elected two members of the German Bundestag as Mr Erler's deputies: Uta Zapf (SPD) and Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg (CDU/CSU). At the Annual General Meeting, a decision was also taken to continue the current priority projects of the Southeast Europe Association focusing on implementing Black Sea cooperation, stabilizing the Western Balkans region and developing the political culture amongst the new EU Member States from Southeast Europe.
