Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin today (15 January) following the bomb attack on a US embassy vehicle in a northern suburb of the Lebanese capital, Beirut:
“I am shocked to hear of the attack in the Beirut area which targeted a vehicle used by the Embassy of the United States of America, and which claimed several lives. I would like to convey our condolences to the families of the victims, and wish those injured a speedy recovery.
The Federal Government condemns this latest attack in the strongest terms. This bombing illustrates once again that the domestic crisis in Lebanon must be resolved as quickly as possible in order to stop the violence at root.
I strongly urge all political forces in Lebanon and throughout the region to allow for the election of a new President and the formation of a government on the basis of the Arab League initiative.”
