In his speech, Mathias Cormann, Australian Minister for Finance and co‑chairman of the Australia-Germany Advisory Group, praised the outstanding contributions Böhmer has made to relations between Germany and Australia. Very few non‑Australians receive this prestigious award.

The justification for the award states that Minister of State Böhmer has broadened and deepened the relationship between Germany and Australia, and that she has shown exceptional commitment to improving cooperation between the two countries. Through her leadership, she has launched a new era of cooperation between Australia and Germany in the fields of trade, business, science, education, culture and sport.

Excellent cooperation in the Australia-Germany Advisory Group

In her reply, Böhmer highlighted the excellent cooperation that exists with Minister Cormann in the Australia-Germany Advisory Group:

“It is an honour, a great pleasure and my duty to maintain my long‑term efforts to deepen relations between Germany and Australia. When Federal Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel approached me two years ago and asked me to assume co‑chairmanship of the Australia-Germany Advisory Group, I immediately accepted.

I was aware that we are entering a new chapter in relations between our two countries. I also knew how important this work is for preparing our countries for the future, and that we can learn from one another. We have the unique opportunity to jointly advance our development in many spheres. These include business, trade, industry 4.0, education, science, migration and integration, building a strategic dialogue, culture, sport and viticulture.”
