In 1972 the UNESCO adopted the „Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" (World Heritage Convention). The UNESCO world heritage list consists of 1092 cultural and natural heritage sites - 44 thereof located in Germany.

In 1972 the UNESCO adopted the „Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" (World Heritage Convention). The convention is the most significant international instrument to preserve cultural and natural sites “with an exceptional universal value”.

On 26 May, Foreign Minister Steinmeier and Minister of State Böhmer presented the former abbey witha UNESCO Certificate confirming its inscription in the World Heritage List.
