Talks about the work of the UNESCO Chairs

Minister of State Böhmer met with representatives of the UNESCO Chairs in Germany in the Federal Foreign Office on 7 November. The talks focused on the importance of sustainable development goals in teaching and research and on national and international networking.

On 7 November, representatives of the UNESCO Chairs in Germany met for the first time in the Federal Foreign Office. Minister of State Maria Böhmer had issued the invitation for the talks. The participants reported on their work, discussed the importance of sustainable development goals and together highlighted the potential of national and international networking.

Minister of State Böhmer underscored the major importance of intensifying cooperation between university chairs, UNESCO and the German Commission for UNESCO. The participants focused particularly on sustainable development goals. Minister of State Böhmer welcomed the fact that teaching and research were focusing on overriding goals such as fair education opportunities, sustainable basic services, combating climate change and preserving marine resources.

Deepening global partnerships

The representatives of the UNESCO Chairs are hoping to deepen their global partnerships. Minister of State Böhmer emphasised how important it is to anchor cooperation by closer networking of university chairs at national level. The German Commission for UNESCO announced it is going to issue a publication on German UNESCO Chairs.
