The European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) was established in April 2010 to train members of the armed forces under Somalia’s UN‑recognized Transitional Federal Government (TFG), particularly as regards mines, fighting in built‑up areas, medical care and telecommunications. It thus constitutes a forward-looking contribution to stabilization in Somalia.

Training takes place in military facilities in Uganda and is carried out in close coordination with the African Union , especially the heads of AMISOM, the African Union Mission in Somalia, and the United States. EUTM has about 130 members, up to 20 of them seconded from the Bundeswehr.
