Statement by Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the handover of EURODAC machines to the Greek Government
Foreign Minister Steinmeier gave the following statement on 3 December on the handover of EURODAC machines to the Greek Government:
We are actively helping Greece to cope with the large flows of refugees. This shows that the EU and Germany are not leaving Greece to cope with the enormous task of managing and directing the flow of migrants and refugees on its own. The European Union is facing a challenge of historic dimensions that can only be overcome if we work together.
Background information:
A further 15 EURODAC machines were handed over to the Greek Government today. These machines ensure the registration of people via fingerprinting and the electronic recording of personal data in line with EU standards. Twelve EURODAC machines were handed over on 15 October.
