Foreign Minister Westerwelle on Morsi trial: The rule of law must be upheld

04.11.2013 - Press release

At the Federal Press Conference the Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (4 November) on behalf of Foreign Minister Westerwelle:

During the course of the trial of Mohammed Morsi that starts today, we expect the transitional government in Egypt to actively embrace its commitment to adhere to rule-of-law principles and to foster rule of law.

The Federal Government is convinced that an inclusive political process is necessary for Egypt to move successfully into the future. This process must be open to all political forces which renounce violence and respect democratic principles.

It goes without saying that those sections of society represented by the Muslim Brotherhood must also have the opportunity to fully participate in this process.
