The Franco-German friendship as reflected in art: to mark the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, Michael Georg Link, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, and his French counterpart Bernard Cazeneuve are opening a multi-part exhibition at the Federal Foreign Office tomorrow (16 January).

The following exhibitions will be on show:

Adenauer – de Gaulle: Architects of Franco-German Friendship

The bilingual exhibition organized by the Home of Chancellor Adenauer Foundation in cooperation with the Fondation Charles de Gaulle is a multimedia presentation of the careers of the two statesmen, the process leading up to the conclusion of the Élysée Treaty and its impact to the present day.

Cartoon exhibition “Paarlauf/pas de deux”

Here, young cartoonists take a non-conformist look at future developments in Franco-German relations, including those in the spheres of energy policy and social change. The cartoons came about as part of a competition launched by the German Embassy in Paris and the Goethe-Institut.

The two exhibitions “Adenauer – de Gaulle” and “Paarlauf/pas de deux” will be open to the public in the atrium of the Federal Foreign Office weekdays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from 17 January to 15 March 2013.

Sculptures by Igor Mitoraj

The life and work of the renowned Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj personify the motive and goals of the Élysée Treaty: embarking on a new path together towards a European future! This exhibition highlights the growing ties of the two countries with Poland as well as the cultural dimension of the Weimar Triangle.

The sculptures can be viewed at the Federal Foreign Office from 17 January until 31 July 2013.

These three exhibitions will be complemented by a multimedia journey devised by the Google Cultural Institute into the history behind the Élysée Treaty.
