Typhoon Bopha: Minister Westerwelle sends message of condolence to Philippine Foreign Minister

In a telegram sent today (6 December), Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressed his condolences to Philippine Foreign Minister Albert F.del Rosario:

As I follow the news of typhoon Pablo, I have been deeply saddened to hear of the many lives it has claimed and the widespread destruction it has caused in your country.
Please allow me to extend my heartfelt sympathy to you and your people. Our thoughts go out to those who have lost loved ones and to those whom the forces of nature have deprived of their worldly possessions. All who were injured have our best wishes for a speedy recovery, and we wish the rescue workers all the requisite strength and stamina to continue with their difficult task.

Background:

Typhoon Bopha, which was referred to as typhoon Pablo in the Philippines, ravaged the islands during recent days, causing immense destruction. The people living on Mindanao were particularly badly hit.

According to the latest news figures, the typhoon claimed more than 450 lives. Reports also suggest that 179,000 people have been left homeless, and more than 350 people are still missing.
