During his visit to Mali, Foreign Minister Westerwelle made the following statement last night (1 November):
Libya’s success in forming a government is an important step on the country’s way towards democracy and the rule of law.
This government has been elected by a clear majority of parliament, giving it the broad support it will need to rise to the enormous challenges awaiting Libya. Security, the protection of human rights and the rule of law are legitimate concerns of the people in Libya.
Germany stands ready to continue to support Libya on this road.
