Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier today offered his condolences to his Haitian counterpart, Alrich Nicolas, following the school collapse in Port-au-Prince on 7 November which claimed many lives.
Federal Minister Steinmeier today (12 November) sent Minister Nicolas a letter of condolence which reads as follows:
"We are all deeply saddened to hear the terrible news and see the pictures of the tragic collapse of the school building in Port-au-Prince which cost the lives of so many young people and injured many others.
Allow me to extend my sincere condolences to you, your Government and the Haitian people. At this difficult time our sympathy is with the parents and families who have lost their children and family members in this awful disaster. Our thoughts are also with all those who have been injured. We wish them a speedy and full recovery."
According to current reports, more than 90 people were killed and around 150 injured in the catastrophe. Numerous people are still missing.
