Steinmeier said that Europeans had to refresh their outlook on Africa; the continent was no longer defined by crises and conflicts alone – there were also anchors of stability and growing regional cooperation.

Latin America: Partner region with great potential Foreign Minister Steinmeier visited Latin America from 12 to 16 February. His trip took him to Brazil, Peru and Colombia. In the run-up to his visit, Steinmeier underlined that Latin America is not only a partner region with great potential, but also shares core values with Germany.
Steinmeier on the Minsk Agreement After almost 17 hours of negotiations in Minsk by the heads of state and government of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia, Foreign Minister Steinmeier said that the agreement was not a major breakthrough, but that the efforts had been worthwhile.
Foreign Minister Steinmeier in Riga und Warsaw Foreign Minister Steinmeier travelled to Latvia and Poland on 5 February. The focus was on the situation in Ukraine and on preparing the next session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on 9 February in Brussels.
