Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was launched as a reaction to the September 2001 terrorist attacks on the USA. OEF’s task is to combat terrorism through various military operations. The mission is led by the US and includes operations in Afghanistan and the guarding of maritime routes. On the basis of a decision by the Bundestag, Germany’s involvement, which began at the end of 2001, was brought to an end in July 2010. Germany's only participation in OEF was sea surveillance around the Horn of Africa. more
